Day 24

Today will be about the power of digital photo manipulation. Look at this photo. It looks like a normal overcast day with some dense fog. The building looks like any other university law building: drab, but architecturally precise. The "Y" on the mountain just looks like a sign of scholastic enthusiasm. No surprises here.

Now look at the picture after I altered it. Creepy, huh? The law building looks like it good be some kind of prison; the "y", once representing collegiate loyalty, looks like a scarlet letter. Just by cropping, increasing the contrast and definition, and putting the picture in black and white I have changed a seemingly harmless photograph into documented evidence of a sinister "film noir" crime scene. Pretty cool, huh?

Some photographers are anti-altering an image, but sometimes it takes just as much creativity to digitally remaster an image into the look you want as it does setting up the shot itself.
